ABOUT BIRCH HILL COLLECTIVE

Built from a simple belief:
people shouldn’t have to navigate difficult seasons alone.

Birch Hill Collective is a Michigan-based nonprofit organization committed to bringing people, partnerships, and resources together to provide practical support, honor dignity, and help create pathways toward greater stability and renewed hope.

OUR STORY

It started on Birch Hill Drive.

People making room for people.

Birch Hill Collective takes its name from Birch Hill Drive in Cincinnati, where our founder, Jason McGhee, grew up.

The house on Birch Hill Drive was more than a childhood home. At different times, family members navigating difficult seasons found a place there to stay, regroup, and begin finding their footing again. There was no formal name for what was happening. It was simply family making room for family—people caring for one another when it mattered.

Years later, that experience became part of the inspiration for Birch Hill Collective.

The organization was founded on the belief that difficult circumstances do not diminish a person’s worth or have to determine what comes next. Sometimes the path forward begins with something practical. Sometimes it begins with a relationship, an opportunity, or simply having people willing to stand with you while you take the next step.

Birch Hill Collective carries the spirit of that childhood home forward—not by recreating what happened there, but by bringing people, organizations, and resources together in ways that can help individuals and families navigate difficult seasons with dignity and hope.

OUR MISSION

Birch Hill Collective walks alongside children, families, and individuals during difficult seasons of life by providing practical support, honoring dignity, and helping create pathways toward long-term stability and renewed hope.

OUR VISION

To help create stronger families and healthier communities where children, families, and individuals are supported with dignity, empowered with opportunity, and equipped to move forward with stability, hope, and purpose.

OUR FOCUS

Rooted in Michigan. Connected to our communities.

MICHIGAN-BASED

SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN

Detroit + surrounding communities

Birch Hill Collective is based in Michigan, with our initial work focused in Detroit and surrounding communities throughout Southeast Michigan.

Rather than assuming what a community needs, we seek to build relationships with trusted organizations and community leaders who understand the people and circumstances around them. These partnerships help us listen, identify where support can be useful, and determine how Birch Hill Collective can respond thoughtfully.

As the organization grows, the ways and places we serve may grow with it. Our focus is not simply on expanding our reach, but on building the relationships and capacity needed to create meaningful, lasting impact.

OUR VALUES

The values that shape how we serve.

Our values guide how we make decisions, build relationships, steward resources, and show up for the people and communities we serve.

DIGNITY

We believe every person deserves to be seen, valued, and treated with dignity.

No circumstance should strip someone of compassion, respect, or the opportunity to move forward with hope.

STEWARDSHIP

We are committed to stewarding every resource, relationship, and opportunity with integrity, wisdom, and accountability. What is entrusted to us should be handled responsibly and used to create meaningful impact.

COMPASSION

We believe compassion should be both heartfelt and active. We seek to serve people with empathy, care, and practical support during times of hardship and transition.

RESTORATION

We believe support should help create lasting change, not just temporary relief. We seek to help create pathways that empower individuals and families toward healing, stability, growth, and renewed opportunity.

COMMUNITY

We believe lives are strengthened through healthy community and meaningful relationships. Lasting impact happens when people are willing to support, encourage, and help one another move forward.

OUR LEADERSHIP

Guided by purpose. Grounded in responsibility.

Birch Hill Collective is guided by leaders who bring diverse experience, perspective, and a shared commitment to responsible stewardship of the organization’s mission.
